Another Tough Winter in Broad Valley

Hello All,

I see that I haven’t posted in a half year.  Well, I blame it on the strange and weird growing season we had last summer and fall, and now a really bang-up winter.  The summer featured floods followed by droughts and heat waves.  All our apples were made into dried apples and apple sauce (plus the goats got a lot, too).  The sunlight was so intense that it burned the south side of the fruit, and many of them dropped.  Luckily we had a good (irrigated) blueberry and brambleberry crop.  Many of the large orchards around here didn’t even pick their trees – they let them fall to the ground.

But we are back to  some really weird heat waves.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen 70F days in January and February here.  Even though we were shy on snow and rain, we got enough to keep our 3 hoop houses going for our CSA and Farmers Market.  Let’s hope for a reasonable Spring.
