Hottest and Driest Early October That I’ve Ever Seen

Hello All,

We are mired in 80F+ (25C) very dry weather. We have not been close to frost yet. We just harvested green beans, for the first time, ever, after autumnal equinox. Weed seeds are still sprouting among the cover-cropped gardens. Amazingly, the fruit harvest continues to be good, but it is not storing as well as it used to when we had chilly nights in October. I just cut a half acre of ‘weed hay’ and I fully expect it to dry and cure. Twenty-five years ago it might have very well been snowed upon before it dried.
I am posting this compilation, from my journals of the ‘first frosts’ and ‘killing frosts’ for the 25 autumns we have been here. According to my computations, we were in the mountains of SC Pa. when we moved here. We are currently in Piedmont Virginia, and are headed SE for N. Carolina:
